While Dad’s Away

21 Jan

A day in the life of me and Noah while the hubs is away.

Early morning snuggles in bed. Don’t judge the bags under the eyes; I think he woke up at like 4am that morning.

Reading Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site. What? You don’t wear a hard hat when you read it?

Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site

Nothing like a little hike to wear out the little man and Stella dog, too. He told me he was “climbing an elephant”.

Puzzles, games, books, eat, ride bikes, drink milk, run around like a crazy man, and REPEAT!

I still managed to get some good workouts in this week with the help from babysitters, jog strollers, nap times, and fitness center childcare. Plus, Noah enjoys doing “Yoga with Mom” as he says. Big Fun!

What do you do to make sure to fit in your workouts on a tight schedule?

My little Noah Bear is 2 today! While others are chatting about the End of the World and the shortest day of the year, we are celebrating our little Winter Solstice Baby!

WHAT LITTLE BOYS ARE MADE OF

A wee bit of dirt

And a devilish grin

Curious eyes..

And spaghetti sauce chin.

A dollop of mud

Behind his right ear;

And a handful of worms

In his pocket, I fear.

You see his knees

through the holes in his jeans.

He likes ice cream,

But won’t eat beans.

He’s made of mudpies

And bubble gum kisses.

And wonder at Christmas

And birthday wishes.

A heap of giggles

And wiggles and love;

These are the things

Little boys

Are made of.

This morning he is having cupcakes with his friends at school and then tonight we are celebrating with our neighborhood friends with some cupcakes and juice for the kids and cupcakes and cocktails for the adults. Because, really me and Jim are toasting each other for surviving another year of parenthood!

Thank you to our friends and family near and far for all your support! We are truly blessed to have this sweet boy in our lives. I love you to the moon and back, buddy!

Almost 2

28 Nov

My little man will be turning 2 soon. He is such a fun, inquisitive, active little boy who loves playing with trucks, giving cuddles to his bunny, and sitting in his chair reading his books.

Here are some of my favorite pictures that really capture his playful personality. I will spare you all the crying pictures of him, although they are pretty funny. And yes, I totally take pictures of him during a crying fit and have actually videoed a temper tantrum. Judge all you want.

First thing in the morning, after he tells us what he wants to eat: applesauce, oatmeal, and yogurt, he usually wants to go “OUTSIDE!!!!”

He makes me feel like I’m the funniest person ever! “Momma silly. Dada silly.”

He likes what he likes. He dressed himself on this day. Picked out his “Geen Eggs n Ham sirt”, “Red shoos, mama.” And we were on day 3 of the hat on his head. He even wore it to bed. Hey, we pick our battles around here.

He loves his trucks. Trucks, Trucks, Trucks. I Love Trucks!

He wants to play golf like his daddy and has a mean swing like his daddy too!

He’s a good little hiker, especially sleeping ;-)

He loves his momma and doesn’t mind the number of kisses I give him every day.

He is such a sweet little guy! We are truly thankful for this blessing.

Winking Wednesday

18 Jul

Today, I was out on the lake (which in Colorado is really the size of a pond). We were doing a kayaking program in Colorado Springs for work today. And I got to join in on the fun. Big fun! Yesterday morning we were up SUPER early for a live feed for Denver’s 9News at 5:30am about our duckie kayaking program. Who kayaks at 5:00am??? We don’t either!! They also did a live shot a 6:30. The erratic, last minute scheduling has made it difficult to fit in my workouts how I would like, but I have gotten my running in, just not the yoga and strength training I would like. But, being up so early Tuesday did make for a pretty sunrise.

Confluence Park and the South Platte River

Noah has learned a new trick. Watch out, ladies! Noah’s a little flirt. Here is Winking Noah!!

2 days until the EPIC RELAYS!!! I plan on living in my compression socks for the next 2 days. It’s a sexy look, folks.

18 months old

21 Jun IMG_1218

Hey, Noah here. Or Bear, sometimes Mom calls me Doodles. I’m 18 months old today.

How do you celebrate being 18 months old?? With a trip to the park, of course. Then the pool.

Look, Ma! No hands!

Why is that kid playing with my truck??

Here are some pretty cool things that I’m doing these days.

Eating

I like to play this game with Mom and Dad called “Nope”. It’s real fun. It goes like this: they put some sort of food in front of me and I shake my head and say “nope” until I decide what I feel like eating – they have no idea. When they finally place a good food option in front of me or mention something that sounds good, then I will grin at them. Things I will never turn down, milk (whole milk is the best), water, crackers, yogurt, bananas. I will eat pretty much try anything at least once; that’s what makes the “Nope” eating game so fun!

Movement

I’m a busy guy and curious, so sue me. I like to see how stuff works. I know you just bought me a new toy, but I would much rather push my stroller around the house. Mom just bought me a push lawn mower. I’ve been offering my services to the neighbors (college is expensive you know). I like to run too, like my mommy. It’s most fun when we chase each other. I’m a pretty great climber too. I still can’t climb out of my crib, but man, I’m working on it.

Talking

Obviously, my favorite word to say is “nope”, but “hi and bye” are up there too. “Mama and Dada” I only say when I want them on command. My Mo and Pa taught me how to say “Go Away” to their dog, Libby- she used to eat my food, but now I say it to Stella too. I learned “Bye Y’all” when I was in Tennessee. I can say “Mo and Pa” when I talk to them, but I like to say “Pa’s” name more because it drives my Mo crazy. I usually say “Watch this” when I want to make sure everyone is paying attention to me. And I will ask “Do you see this?” when I see something really neat that I want to show others. I can repeat most words on command, but I like saying farm animals’ names and making their noises the best, but then again I like cars and trucks and buses and bikes and always yell out their name and point to them when I see them too.

Favorite things

Favorite things with Mom- There are lots of things that we do together. I mainly want her to be right next to me, so I can always remind her of my awesomeness, but she lets me dig in the dirt with her, she takes me to the mountains to go on hikes, we go to the pool and splash, but my secret favorite times are when I’m really sleepy and she will cuddle me to read a book and we sit in the rocking chair; I really like that.

Favorite things with dad- Dad has cool toys that I like a lot, like the lawn mower and all sorts of stuff with wheels on it so I like messing with that stuff with him. He also lets me use his iPad to watch videos of me doing funny things. We read lots of books together. I really like when he takes me to the park because he pushes me higher in the swing than Mom does.

Favorite things with Stella- I like stealing her toys and running away with them so that she will chase me. I also like to try to catch her. She is really fast. Sometimes I just want to give her a hug but she runs away from me. She ignores me sometimes, but I know, deep down she loves me. Mom and Dad always say “soft, soft with Stella” when I’m gently patting her head and maybe pulling her ears, and stepping on her tail but really all I’m trying to do is love on her.

That’s enough for now. Mom’s talking about going for a run. I will just have to see about that ;-)

A Conversation with Noah

9 May

Noah is becoming quite the Chatty Cathy and I love it!

I was telling my mom about this and she told me that what is really funny is when you can start to see yourself and your behaviors being mimicked by your little one. Oh Lord!

Can you tell that I talk on the phone a lot? Anyone who has lived with me knows that I can pace a path in the floor. Well, Noah likes to walk and talk too. And gets quite animated while on the phone -so can his mama ;-) Also, place no judgement on the fact that he is trying to get into the liquor cabinet.

The next two videos are just quick little conversations with Noah. We have no idea what he is saying, but who cares, it’s adorable!

Happy Hump Day!

If you haven’t read these Llama Llama books, they are so fun to read and Noah Bear just loves them! Every time Noah wears his red pajamas it makes me think of Llama Llama!

Do you have a favorite book to read to your little one?

Blueberry Muffin

22 Feb
Me: “Who wants a blueberry muffin?”
Noah: <grunts> “I want a blueberry muffin.”
Stella: <pouting> “I want a blueberry muffin.”

Noah: “This blueberry muffin sure tastes good.”
Stella: “That blueberry muffin sure looks good.”

Noah: “Oops, I dropped some.”
Stella: “Ha, Ha, you dropped some.”

Noah: “Ooh, my juice.”
Stella: “You snooze, you lose, kid. Blueberry muffin is sooo good.”

Noah: “Where did my blueberry muffin go?”
Stella: “What blueberry muffin?”

Mullet Be Gone

18 Jan

Noah had his first haircut. I can understand why some mamas let their child’s locks grow out. It took me a while to get on board with this haircut idea when it took him so long to grow some stinkin’ hair. I mean, come on.

Noah @ 7 months

But, it was getting to the point that I could hear the “Dueling Banjos” in my head when I would brush his sweet little head in the morning. So, it had to be done.

BEFORE (on Christmas Eve)

"Don't tell me I need a haircut, woman!"

AFTER (Today, the I ain’t got no mullet no mo day)

Oh that's better.

The mullet is gone. I know we are from the south, but we are not from that south. He wasn’t too thrilled at first to have someone other than his mama with their hands all over his lettuce, but he mellowed out after a couple of minutes. Plus there was a girl getting shampooed nearby that he kept flirting with so that helped distract him. We went to Fantastic Sams and they did such a great job. Noah even got a certificate and his stylist bagged his first cut locks for me to put in his baby book. So sweet!

"Hey, what are you doing, lady?"

This haircut is Stella-approved.

"You look alright, kid."

We are all feeling much better (stomach bug be gone). The next few days will be spent scrubbing our germ-infested house, a trip to the Children’s Museum, trying some new recipes, date night, hiking with my Colorado Mountain Mamas, and some running.

Baby Steps

6 Jan

Ever since receiving several fun push toys for Christmas and his birthday, Noah has gained a lot of confidence with walking. So much so that he stood up on his own and took a few steps to get to one of his toys. It was such a treat because Jim and I were both there with him to see it. We quickly grabbed the video camera so here you go… Noah’s first steps!
