My Dog Gives Me a Complex

16 Aug

There are times that people will laugh when I run by with Stella Nutella. Sometimes, it will trigger all of those silly teenage insecurities: Why are they looking at me? Do I smell? Do I have snot all over my face? Did I just step in something? And then I realize that they just saw this crazy face.

She’s just so happy. That tongue hangs out and there is a hint of a smile and her eyes get so big… I guess I would giggle too.

But then, there are times when we are out for a walk or at a dog park and people will stop to tell me how pretty Stella is. Yep, well I have lip gloss on and she just licked her butt, but whatever.

I think Jim needs to tell me I’m beautiful more. I mean, just look at this face!

Tough Mudder

I run with Stella 2-3 times a week and its always with a leash because I’m running through neighborhoods and area trails and there is always someone on the trail. Stella is a good dog, but she will jump up on people when they want to say hi (because she gets crazy excited) so that’s why I keep her on leash. It still surprises me that so many dog owners don’t get control of their dogs on the trail. I don’t mind if the dog is off leash if the owner has good control over their dog. But just this morning 2 dogs jumped up on me while running. I don’t mind if I’m at a dog park or out for a leisurely stroll, or at least if the owner is close by or making some sort of an attempt to handle their dog, but none of that happened this morning. It’s not like I was blazing fast or that I felt like I was so important that I couldn’t take a moment to pet the dog. I don’t know, I was just so annoyed. I got home and stretched before everyone woke up. Stella licked my face and then I realized that she just licked her butt.

Good Morning!

Friday Favorites: Ode to Stella

11 May

I love this dog! Even though she doesn’t get all the attention she used to, she’s still our Princess Stella Nutella!

As a puppy, she brought me friendship in a new state where I knew no one other than the hubs.

She’s a great hiking, walking, skipping, and running companion.

She loves peanut butter, possibly more than me. No that’s not true. If my tongue was long enough to lick the inside of a peanut butter jar, I would.

She poses for the camera.

She handles humiliation with style.

She naps with me after a long run. (I was 40 weeks pregnant here and we had just gone for a 4 mile waddle jog/walk)

She can curl up in the tiniest ball while sleeping.

She is so good with Noah. Not many dogs will let a child pull their tail and grab their tongue and just take it. She does get Noah back every now and again with a whack of her tail.

She loves to run! It’s quite fun to watch her. She’s beautiful when she runs. She’s fast and is fully in her element! Pure joy when she has a wide open space to tear through! With my marathon next week and 14 weeks of training under my belt, it’s motivating to see her love of running. I will channel her energy during my race, for sure!

What do you think about during your big races? How do you keep your thoughts positive?

Stella Nutella Turns 5

9 Feb

Our dog, Stella Nutella celebrated her 5th birthday over the weekend. In dog years, Stella and I are the same age! We still had a mound of snow for Stella to go crazy in and that’s what she did. We made sure to give her all her favorite dog treats and of course, peanut butter. We also tried to keep Noah from riding her like a horse (the poor dog should get at least one day off from the kid).

Stella, at 8 weeks old when we got her.

And Stella now. We got her a new girly collar. It’s pink!!

Her favorite treats!

“This is my good sit, Mom.”

Playing in the snow.

In all fairness, Stella is fabulous with our little one. She doesn’t snip at him when he takes her toy; she doesn’t flinch when Noah comes crawling over to her bed and “gently” pats her on the head. She takes it like a champ! Noah really is fascinated by her and just laughs and laughs when she performs for us by doing a fancy catch or running circles in the back yard. HERE are some great pictures of Noah & Stella.

I think she had a great day, especially snuggled up with Noah’s big teddy bear. The funny thing abut this incident, is that Stella crept over to the bear after Noah laid down in her bed.

She was dog tired by the end of the day.

Happy Birthday, Buddy!

Wheeeerrre’s Stella?

20 Jan

The other night I walked into the living room and couldn’t find Stella anywhere. I went upstairs, downstairs looking in all her favorite spots. I checked outside to make sure I didn’t leave her out there. How do you lose a dog? I came back in and saw this.

A little closer.

And closer.

How is it possible for her to curl up that small?? I said goodnight. She ignored me. I came back down in the morning and saw this.

I guess she did stretch out a little…

Now for playtime.

"That's my toy, kid."

Have a great weekend, all. It is a running rest day for me (and that’s good because I am sore) so Noah and I are hiking Green Mountain today! Happy Weekending!
